Mrs. Ingrid Bouterse-Waldring
First Lady of Suriname
Mrs. Ingrid Bouterse-Waldring as the First Lady of Suriname initiates and supports programs designed to foster economic development and to improve the quality of life for all Surinamese people, with a special focus on children and elderly.
She believes that access to knowledge and the enhancement of learning will improve the quality of life and has therefore initiated and implemented several projects in supporting disadvantaged children and schools with the necessary tools, e.g. school material, computers, libraries.
Mrs. Bouterse yearly pays special respect and acknowledgment to the elderly in Suriname, as having set the fundament of the Republic of Suriname.
Mrs. Bouterse also puts great emphasis on the importance of strengthening and enhancing the capacity of rural communities, whilst respecting the positive values of local culture and heritage. She is also very committed to the key role of women in the development process and to facilitating their participation.
With her vast experience in business and management, Mrs. Bouterse is the Guardian of the Paramaribo Zoo and many other foundations for social support, protection of the environment, children with disabilities, promotion of Early Childhood Development and Nature Parks.

Mrs. Ingrid Bouterse-Waldring was born 24 April 1961 and is married to the President of the Republic of Suriname, Desire Delano Bouterse.
The couple has one (1) daughter and four (4) foster children.
The First Lady is very energetic and has a strong interest in healthy food, healthy living and nature products.
